Gladstone Community Center Food Box Program Transition With the recent announcement that the Gladstone Food Pantry has received three years of operational funding ($262,717) from the Clackamas County Supportive Housing Services resources, the City is transitioning the community food box program to the Gladstone Food Pantry. The food pantry is a partnership between the Oregon Food Bank, Gladstone School District, Northwest Family Services, and the City of Gladstone. Hillside Fellowship donates the use of their facility, located at 6460 Glen Echo. The clients from the Community Center will still get their food boxes, and the volunteers and food donated to the Center will be transferred to the Gladstone Food Pantry. This will streamline operations while ensuring the senior population is cared for. Another positive outcome is that it will open up much-needed space at the Community Center. Staff will evaluate how the transition is going mid-summer and make changes if needed.

Clackamas Fire received a grant to train its firefighters and paramedics using software that immerses first responders in various high-stress scenarios. Shout out to former Gladstone Fire Chief Rick Huffman, who is in charge of implementing the program. Clackamas Fire District is only the second in the nation to implement EmergSim’s virtual-reality programming, which allows first responders to prepare for situations that are difficult to recreate through real-life training. https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2024/05/whats-real-and-whats-make-believe-merge-in-clackamas-fires-cutting-edge-50k-training-program.html
